Surgery with a minimally invasive technique takes place in the rib gap with a wound measuring 3 to 5 cm using an endoscopy surgical instrument.
“Normal surgery still uses many tools, materials that can sometimes harm the patient’s body. By eliminating these tools, the risk will be much less,” said Dr. Ismail .
Dr. Ismail said that minimally invasive approaches to cardiac surgery in children can also preserve the child’s chances for optimal growth and development. It is known that cutting a child’s sternum can cause problems due to developmental disorders in the future.
“Because they are still developing. And when we do surgery by cutting the sternum, we disturb the process,” said Dr. Ismail.
The heart surgery procedure in children is very dependent on the disease they are suffering from, for example being born blue due to a mixture of clean and dirty blood in the womb.
According to Dr. Ismail, most heart surgeries are performed on children to treat congenital heart disease, which is pain caused by abnormalities in the structure and function of the heart from birth. Some of these include heart wall leaks, heart valve abnormalities or blood vessel abnormalities.
He confirmed that the children had a long life expectancy. Therefore, measures must be taken to increase the health of children.
