RCD Mallorca lost on their visit to the RCDE Stadium against Espanyol, who won 2-1 in a closely contested match. The vermillions, yes, go into the break with 14 points in 9 games and completely negative feelings, despite the defeat.
Jagoba Arrasate practically repeated the eleven against Valladolid and came out with Dominik Greif, Pablo Maffeo, Antonio Raíllo, Copete, Mojica, Samu Costa, Mascarell, Dani Rodríguez, Robert Navarro, Sergi Darder and Cyle Larin.
Kumbulla unbalances the balance in the first half
The start of the match was very even, with neither team imposing itself on the other and without dangerous chances. In the 19th minute, however, a well executed free kick by Carlos Romero allowed Jofre to assist Marash Kumbulla, who rose to open the scoring with a precise header. From there, Mallorca tried to react, but they were imprecise and had a hard time creating any real danger in front of the goal defended by Joan García.
Until the last breath
In the second half, Espanyol continued to dominate and, after a great counterattack, Jofre was once again the protagonist by making it 2-0 in the 47th minute. Mallorca seemed to have few options, but they did not give up. It was in the 68th minute when Antonio Raíllo, helped by Cyle Larin, closed the gap and revitalized the hopes of the vermillions. Despite this goal, Mallorca failed to convert their chances in the final minutes.
The match became complicated for both teams, with several yellow cards and substitutions that altered the pace of the game. Mallorca pressed in the final moments, but Espanyol’s defense resisted the siege. Despite the efforts and a couple of dangerous arrivals, such as Chiquinho’s shot that was deflected by Joan García, Arrasate’s team could not find the way to the goal in injury time.
RCD Mallorca’s next match is on Sunday, October 20, at home, against Rayo Vallecano.
