Miniforum Table V3 3in1 Review and Comparison: A High-End Surface-Like 2-in-1 Windows Tablet PC

This time, we introduce the new Microsoft Surface-like 2-in-1 Windows tablet PC from Minisforum, which has released many small PCs.Miniforum table V3 3in1” was offered to me, so I would like to review it.

This is a high-end tablet PC equipped with Ryzen 7 8840U, which is often used in portable gaming PCs, and is also compatible with Japanese JIS format keyboard cases and touch-sensitive pens pressure.

Currently, the company’s official storeThis pageThe 32GB/1TB SSD configuration, pen, case, keyboard, and glass film set are on sale for 191,980 yen, 48,000 yen off.

When you actually use it, you’ll love its lightning-fast performance.

Not only that, but it’s also easy to use when combined with a keyboard and pen, making it a well-made Windows tablet PC.

Let’s take a look!

Appearance and specs

The items included in the package are a USB-C charger, a USB Type-C to C cable, and a manual, as shown below.

The manual is also available in Japanese.

The charger is equipped with one USB Type-C port that is compatible with PD. Since it is made of GaN, it is very small and light.

The maximum output is 65w. Even without using this, I was able to provide 65W of power with a standard USB-C charger.

In addition, message cards and stickers were also included.

The tablet itself has a modern design with narrow bezels. It’s 14 inches, so it’s big. Non-glossy and less reflective.

Let’s take a look at the specs.

The SoC is AMD Ryzen 7 8840U with 8 cores and 16 threads and TDP 28w, GPU is AMD Radeon 780M, RAM is 32GB LPDDR5-6400MHz, storage is 1TB PCIe4.0x4 M.2 2280 SSD, 14 inches (25060 x 1600) display, It has a maximum refresh rate of 165Hz, 500 nits brightness, a style that supports 4,096 pressure detection levels, 10-point multi-touch support, and Windows 11 Pro.

Battery capacity is 50.82Wh. Communication supports Wi-Fi6E and Bluetooth 5.3.

Biometric authentication supports facial authentication using Windows Hello using the 2MP front camera and fingerprint authentication on the power button.

Sensors include a gyro and a G sensor. The speakers have a quad configuration and have two built-in fans for cooling.

The size is 318 x 213.8 x 9.8mm.

The body is made of magnesium alloy, and the rear panel has a large fan and an impressive speaker hole, giving it a unique design that doesn’t feel cheap.

On the right side, there are 2 USB 4.0 Type-C ports that support up to 40Gbps transfer and charging, and a power button that also doubles as fingerprint authentication.

On the other side is a VLink port, a capped SD card slot, and a 3.5mm earphone jack. ↓

Air hole at the top.

There are pogo pins on the bottom for attaching a keyboard case.

The actual thickness is 9.4mm. Although it is not as thick as a tablet with a mobile OS, it does not feel thick for a 14-inch device.

The size is 10.9 inches, which is very large compared to the general tablet-sized iPad Air, as shown below.

The actual weight of the tablet is 925g. ↓

I think the benchmark for this device is the Surface Pro series, but the Surface Pro 9 is 13 inches, 9.3 mm thick, and weighs ~878 g, so considering the difference in footprint, the weight of the two is about the same.

pen and keyboard

Currently, when you buy this device, it also comes with a back case, a keyboard case, and a pen.

First, the back case is as shown below.

With the magnetic method, you can bend it in the middle and tighten it down to the bottom corner.

Next is the case of the keyboard, but the nice thing about it is that it comes in JIS format as shown below.

Since it is 14 inches, the main pitch is 18 mm, which is plenty of space. Like it or not, PgUp and PgDn types are lined up directly to the right of the Enter column.

The keyboard has a pogo pin connection, so no charging or pairing is required. Equipped with keyboard backlight, the stroke is 1.2mm and it is very easy to type. There is also a Copilot key to the left of Ctrl in the lower right corner, which allows you to call Microsoft’s AI functions.

Touchpad sensitivity is also good. Minisforum only sells individual mechanical keyboards, and the keyboard legs are well made.

The keyboard can be tilted as shown below.

The exterior is made of PU leather.

On the other hand, the weight of the keyboard case, back case, and main body is close to 1.6 kg. A typical laptop weighs less than 1.5 kg, so it might be heavy to carry around.

The pen has two buttons with an erase function and is lightweight at 13.6g. A magnet can be attached to the top of the table when it is placed horizontally.

Supports 4,096 levels of pen pressure detection using MPP2.0 protocol. It is equipped with all functions such as tilting and not reacting even if your palm hits it while using the pen.

No pairing required, so no complaints like a pen.

measurement score

Next, let’s look at the benchmarks. The default settings (screen scale 200%) with all the powers provided are full screen FullHD settings.

First, the FF15 bench is standard quality and costs 3,511.

On the FF14 Golden Legacy bench, it is 6,118 in normal quality (laptop).

Since it is equipped with Ryzen 7 8840U, it has performance that can be used for gaming.

Next is CPU performance, and the CINEBENCH R23 score is single core 1,750pts and multicore 12,103pts.

Comparing multi-core and single-core scores with other CPUs, see below. It is very fast for a mobile chip.

Since it is a PCIe4.0 x4 SSD, the storage read/write speed is around 4,000 to 5,000 MB/s for sequential reading and writing, as shown below.

High complete. Differences from the Surface Pro series

That’s all,”Miniforum table V3 3in1” I have seen it.

After all, this unit will be compared to the Surface Pro 9 or the upcoming Surface Pro 10.

Of course, it depends on which SKU of the many Surface Pro series you choose, but to put it simply, this device (equipped with a high-end mobile U series chipset) has the same performance, but it slightly larger and heavier. On the other hand, since the 1TB price for the set includes the keyboard and the pen, it can be said that this device has a higher cost performance compared to the specifications. Of course, we have to take into account differences in brand power.

I think the value of this device will depend on how you intend to use it, and how the size and weight of the 14-inch set weighs 1.6 kg.

The product is very complete, including high performance, margins, sound quality, and image quality, so if you are looking for a 2-in-1 similar to a larger Surface, be sure to give you look at it!
