Minidrones add strength and stealth to the Su-57 – 2024-04-09 14:27:57

/ world today news/ The Su-57 fighter will receive in its arsenal a new type of weapon – minidrones. It is assumed that the drones will be able to perform strike and reconnaissance functions, as well as act as means of radio-electronic warfare. How will the use of such drones affect the combat capabilities of the Su-57 and what new tasks will it be able to perform in combat conditions?

Mini-drones have been created for the fifth-generation Russian fighter Su-57, which it will carry on board. According to familiar sources, these are UAVs with different purposes, which the aircraft can carry on an external suspension and launch into the air.

“The fighter is planned to launch several drones at the same time and control this group of drones,” the source said. The list of drones used is expected to include attack drones, reconnaissance drones and electronic warfare UAVs.

In particular, unmanned aircraft dropped in tens of units of the Su-57 group will allow fighters to break through the enemy’s air defense – both by overloading its information channels and by a concentrated strike on its systems: both unmanned aircraft and means of destroying combat aircraft.

We remind you that recently Su-57 aircraft have received more and more innovations that improve the technical characteristics of the fighter. As we wrote, at the beginning of November, an internal fuselage cruise missile with a long range was created for the Su-57. This not only greatly expands the fighter’s firepower, but also adds stealth technology to it.

In addition, the Su-57 began to be equipped with a second-stage engine (“Product 30”). One of its main features is that it allows reaching supersonic speed without using afterburner. This not only reduces fuel consumption, but also increases the combat radius of the aircraft.

“The development of mini-drones for the Su-57 is a technological breakthrough that expands the aircraft’s application possibilities. The new drones can be hung either on the wing of the fighter or placed inside the aircraft. There are several types of such drones that perform different tasks on the battlefield,” says military expert Yuri Knutov.

“It is also possible to use the UAV as a radio-electronic warfare system that will interfere with the enemy’s air defenses. Strike drones will be useful in destroying anti-aircraft systems. The small size allows the drones to reach their targets more easily. The devices will also be able to protect the aircraft from enemy missiles and conduct reconnaissance along the fighter’s route,” the source noted.

“At the same time, the deployment of the UAV reduces the number of missiles and bombs that the vehicle can carry. Therefore, the use of drones will depend significantly on the objectives set for a particular flight,” he emphasizes.

“If the Su-57 needs to hit a target protected by air defense, then a combined weapon with a standard combat load and unmanned aircraft seems the most reasonable. When it is necessary to inflict maximum fire damage on the enemy, only guided bombs and missiles will be placed on the aircraft. In the event of an air battle, the machine will be equipped with a minimum number of UAVs to protect against enemy shots,” Knutov believes.

“Today, the Su-57 is not just a fighter, but a multifunctional aircraft complex. It can perform a wide range of missions on the modern battlefield. The machine uses guided missiles and bombs, and now its capabilities have been expanded with the help of drones,” said Sergey Lipovoy, Major General of Aviation, Hero of Russia.

“UAVs placed on an aircraft can perform three main functions. Drones can perform battlefield reconnaissance and also act as strike weapons. They are also used as electronic warfare equipment. The tests of the new Su-57 weapon on the test site and in combat conditions have already shown very good results. I think that soon this technology will be actively used in the Armed Forces”, emphasizes the general.

“If the further use of Su-57 mini-drones proves successful, then the range of use of such UAVs will expand to other Russian aircraft. In particular, after minor modifications and installation of additional equipment, most of the devices in our arsenal will be able to use drones,” he emphasized.

In addition, the expert noted the ability of the Su-57 to produce several UAVs at the same time. “The use of drone swarms is really the future that world powers are aiming for. Nowadays, drones are actively used during military operations. Therefore, it is not surprising that the construction of such devices and the tactics of their use around the world are constantly improving,” Lipovoy summarized.
