Passenger transport to order: The Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV) wants to significantly increase the on-demand offer in the region. That means: Instead of fixed timetables and routes, there are minibuses that can be ordered with a smartphone via an app – so that they drive exactly when they are needed, as the association explained. The aim is for more people to switch from their cars to local public transport, for example late in the evening or in rural areas.

The RMV stated that it was one of the largest on-demand projects in Europe. A pilot project is already running in the Offenbach district, where passengers can order the “Hopper” minibus using the app. The expanded offer should then also work across city and district boundaries.

The project funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport will be presented this Wednesday in an online press conference (3:30 p.m.). Federal Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer (CSU) will speak a greeting. A subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn, Ioki, is also involved. It provides the background software.

At the press conference it will be announced where the on-demand shuttles are going. At the beginning of the year, the RMV named the municipalities of Limburg, Taunusstein, Wiesbaden, Hofheim, Frankfurt, Kelsterbach, Hanau, Darmstadt and the Offenbach and Darmstadt-Dieburg districts for the plans.
