The carnival music can be heard in the distance. And at the gates of the establishment, a few curious people observe and take advantage of this rhythm which becomes exceptional in these times of restrictions.
Inside, it’s effervescence. Cartoon princess, superhero, clown, the colorful costumes are out and the students dance, jump, have fun in small groups.
Cloélya, 7 and a half, chose to disguise herself as “Jasmine“from the cartoon Aladdin. The girl who is not on her first video, appreciates having been able to have fun with her friends.
It was very good, I had a great time with my friends. We had a lot of fun with everyone and then we are very tired.
A small carnival parade in the playground that had to be organized while respecting sanitary measures.
We tried to demarcate areas in the yard so that each teacher could stay with his class. We did a little emptying in each area. By trying of course to respect barrier gestures, which is not easy for children of this age. But we did our best and they had a great time.
The director of the establishment which has 181 children from CP and CE1 wanted her students to live “a traditional carnival“.
What the students see on TV are wild videos that don’t really have to do with carnival. It would be important to show them a clean carnival, with songs that they learn. I don’t know if you heard, they sang a song, Monday was dictated, Tuesday dictated, Wednesday … and then Friday was emptied. Show them that we can make pretty songs, that we can sing and experience the carnival differently.
The members of the group Nou Pa Sav punctuated this mini carnival parade.

For the atmosphere, Chrystal, Olivier, Christian, Ursula, Djahel and Jeremiah members of the group Nou Pa Sav take care of it. It was the first outing of the street orchestra “since Ash Wednesday last year“.
It did us good too! This is what I came for. I wanted things to go a bit normally for the children. And then seeing them like that, it was really nice.
A work in concert with the town of Lamentin which organizes the children’s carnival every year.
It is the will of the city every year. Le Lamentin has seven street orchestras. Usually they willingly participate in the video that is organized in the streets with all the children.
The difference this year is that we had to separate the groups so that the 11 primary schools and the 5 nursery schools each had a carnival atmosphere.
We wanted to bring the atmosphere and the sound of carnival to life while respecting sanitary measures.
The festivities continue in the afternoon (February 5, 2021) for the pupils who are invited to discover the exhibition of the carnival characters at the city’s cultural center … before a well-deserved vacation.
