Before it was modified for racing, the classic Mini was sold by the British Motor Corporation (BMC) as Austin and Morris respectively. From 1961 the racing legend John Cooper used his technical know-how and the potential of the small car to give the Mini more power.
The resulting Cooper models became icons of rallying. David Brown Automotive is celebrating the 60th birthday of the vehicle with a special model in a limited edition of 60 cars. Also on board: LED headlights, air conditioning, electric window lifters, infotainment via touchscreen.
One of the focal points of the vehicle is the 1,450 cc in-line A-series engine, which is located under the bonnet. Tuned by Oselli Engineering, it delivers 125 hp (93 kilowatts) – not a colossal performance, but the Mini also weighs only 1,050 kilograms. Maximum torque? 153 Newton meters at 4,500 rpm.
There is also a manual five-speed gearbox. The special mini accelerates to 100 km / h in 7.8 seconds, with a top speed of over 160 km / h. Oselli has been tuning A-series engines since the early 1960s.
A bundle of other performance improvements will help tame the extra power. A limited slip differential maximizes traction and minimizes wheelspin on the front axle. The pocket rocket also has high-performance brakes from AP Racing, fully adjustable Bilstein springs and dampers, and larger 13-inch wheels with super-adhesive tires.
As if the racing origins weren’t already obvious, Formula 1 reserve driver Jack Aitken was selected as the brand ambassador for the performance vehicle. Much like F1 legend James Hunt, who, like Niki Lauda, began his career behind the wheel of a Mini, Aitken was the first car to own a classic Mini.
The Oselli Edition is available as a 4-seater or 2-seater with a half roll cage in the rear, powder-coated in your chosen accent color and partially hand-decorated with leather. The two-seater has four-point seat belts. While both variants are street legal, buyers have the option of ordering the car with two tanks (34 and 21 liters) for longer journeys or long-distance races.
It is unclear how many of these vehicles were sold, but the Mini Remastered Oselli Edition can currently be ordered with right or left hand drive. Deliveries will start at the beginning of 2022. The prices will be announced on request. But you can count on a sum of 100,000 pounds. Small consolation: even original Mini Cooper from the 1960s are no longer cheap.
