Vienna – The city of Vienna will receive more permanent positions from the federal government for the coming school year. In the school year 2021/22 there will be a total of 12,500 positions for compulsory schools – 130 full-time positions more than before. This slight increase in the number of teachers is due to the city’s population growth, which is also reflected in the school sector with more schools and students, as Vienna’s City Councilor for Education Christoph Wiederkehr (Neos) explained. A total of 14,000 teachers are working in 450 compulsory schools in Vienna’s compulsory school sector. The plus for teachers is around one percent.
