Well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that Apple has notified suppliers that it will cancel the plan to release the fourth-generation iPhone SE next year, and Qualcomm will be the biggest winner, because it means that the iPhone 16 series models are been launched in the second half of next year have a great chance to continue Qualcomm’s 5G chip.
Ming-Chi Kuo tweeted last month that Apple (AAPL-USA) could delay or even cancel the launch of the new iPhone SE 4, and now strongly believes that this plan has been canceled.
Ming-Chi Kuo posted on Medium on Friday (6) that Apple originally intended to equip the iPhone SE 4 with an in-house developed 5G modem chip. It will continue to rely on Qualcomm (QCOM-USA) 5G chips, including the iPhone 16 series.
Concerned that the performance of its self-developed chips wouldn’t be as good as Qualcomm’s, Apple initially planned to let the low-end iPhone SE 4 be the first to use it after launching its own 5G chips in 2024, and decide whether to leave the iPhone 16 adopt it according to the state of development.
Apple’s cancellation of the iPhone SE 4 release plan has greatly increased the chances of Qualcomm continuing to be the exclusive supplier of modem chips for the iPhone 16. The market was expecting Qualcomm to lose iPhone orders starting in 2024 .
The iPhone SE 3 launched by Apple in March last year is equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X57 5G modem chip. The iPhone 15 series models are expected to be equipped with the Snapdragon X70, while the iPhone 16 series may adopt the yet to be announced Snapdragon X75.
Ming-Chi Kuo believes Qualcomm is expected to continue to dominate the global market for radio frequency (RF) chips for high-end mobile phones in the next two years and that its profits will be significantly better than those of its competitors. portfolio will help it reduce the negative impact of the economic downturn and resume strong earnings growth when the economy recovers.
