Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa (JSW) will increase employees’ salaries by 10 percent this year. The company employs approximately 22,000 people. The cost of the increases is approximately PLN 250 million, according to the company’s information. The management board reached an agreement with the trade unionists on this matter.

– I am glad that we managed to communicate. Now we will all work quietly; we will not waste our energy on unnecessary disputes that have so often accompanied wage negotiations in the past. We have proved that substantive discussions are the best solution. I would like to thank the representative trade unions for their constructive attitude – said the president of JSW, Tomasz Cudny, quoted in the company’s announcement.

JSW – pay rises for miners

The agreement on the increase in wages was signed by the representative trade unions operating at JSW: Solidarity, Kadra and the JSW Miners’ Trade Union Federation. The agreement also established that in January this year. the value of preventive meals due to miners will increase from PLN 21 to PLN 30.

“In accordance with the Agreement, from January 2022, the remuneration fund will be increased by 10 percent and will be associated with an increase in basic pay rates and an increase in the value of preventive meals for the company’s employees. The increase in the remuneration fund in 2022 will amount to approximately PLN 250 million” – she announced JSW in a stock exchange announcement.

Agreement with trade unionists

The agreement signed on Friday exhausts the demands of the social side with regard to the increase in wages this year. At the end of December last year, trade unionists asked the company’s management to start wage talks. The first meeting took place in early January.

The previous agreement regarding the size of the wage increase at JSW in 2021, one-off awards and an increase in the value of preventive meals for miners was signed on September 13, 2021. an increase in salaries from the beginning of September by 1.6%, which together with the 3.4% increase in force since July. meant a 5% increase in wages in the past year.

In addition, the payment of one-off awards was then agreed – workers employed underground received PLN 4.3 thousand. PLN, employees of mechanical coal processing plants 3.5 thous. PLN, and other employees 3.1 thous. zloty.

“As of the date of its signing, the agreement ends the collective dispute regarding the validity of the agreement on wage increases in 2020, and also ends the stage of negotiations in the collective dispute regarding the increase in wages in 2021 and exhausts the demands of the Representative Trade Unions in these areas,” she informed last September. In 2020, a year of crisis for JSW, there were no raises or one-off awards in the company. At that time, the prices of coal and coke from the JSW Group decreased by an average of around one third, and the Group’s revenues decreased by nearly 20%. As a result, it closed 2020 with a loss exceeding PLN 1.5 billion. Last year, the company was gradually making up for losses.
