Thousands of workers and employees of “Asarel-Medet”, pensioners from the company, as well as many residents and guests of the municipality gathered on August 31 in the village of Panagyurski colonies for Miner’s Day. The holiday began with a water consecration for health and well-being, officiated by the episcopal vicar of the Panagyur spiritual district, staurophorus priest-steward Atanas Manolov in the chapel “St. Ivan Rilski”. The talented Stivani Dzhunova and Hristiyan Balev performed the company song, created 30 years ago with lyrics by Mihail Belchev and music by Toncho Rusev. The company’s banner had the honor of being carried by Velko Mitchkyurov with 39 years of experience in the Enrichment Factory, who was assisted by Eng. Kristina Tsvetankova and Eng. Neli Zapryanova from the first graduating class of the dual training program.
In his introduction, the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of “Asarel-Medet” Dimitar Tsotsorkov said: “This is a celebration of the people who work in the company, in the subsidiaries and public-private partnerships of “Asarel”. A celebration of the veterans we respect and whose experience we continue to value. To the young people who are now entering the profession and bring the drive for innovation, to our families who support and help us, to the children who are proud of their parents’ work. Thank you for the good work of all colleagues from “Asarel” and from the subsidiaries, with whom we jointly implement the corporate strategy for long-term sustainable development, the founder of which is my father Lachezar Tsotsorkov. We believe that only when we think about the success of the entire municipality and country, Asarel will continue to be one of the leading companies in the mining industry in Europe.”
Eng. Delcho Nikolov – Chairman of the Management Board, indicated that in December two significant anniversaries are coming up for the company – 60 years since the opening of the IOC “Medet” and 35 years since another memorable event – the putting into operation of the Assarel Enrichment Factory at the end in the landmark year of 1989. “There are many colleagues here with whom we well remember where we started from. We now know what technologies we work with and how we achieve results that once seemed technologically impossible. We are united by the difficulties we have overcome, the vision for the future, company traditions and our shared values,” he said.
Executive Director Eng. Nikolay Peltekov congratulated the Assarel-Medet team, which is behind the achieved successes: “We received the awards of the Bulgarian Chamber of Mining and Geology for the best production results and care for nature. Behind this are millions of investments in modernization, ecology and sustainable development, along with the work of thousands of people. We are all proud to be part of our successful company. We’re proud of the world-class technology we have, the world-class results we achieve, the way we achieve those results and the people behind them.”
The mayor of Panagyurishte municipality Zhelyazko Gagov addressed the team of “Asarel-Medet”:
“Thank you for having you. Because “Asarel” has never been just a main economic pillar for the development of our native region. And much more. I thank the management for creating such an organization and achieving financial and economic success, but at the same time paying attention to social and cultural activities in the municipality. I will remind you that from 2012 until now, more than 150 million BGN have been invested in various infrastructure projects. Panagyurishte beats with the rhythm of one heart, and this heart is called “Asarel-Medet”.
Prof. Ivan Mitev – executive director of the Bulgarian Chamber of Mining and Geology, stated: “Asarel” is an example of a modern business not only in Bulgaria, but throughout Europe. Thank you to everyone involved in putting out the fires. You are an example of the true spirit of the people of Asarel and the Bulgarian miner.
Todor Kapitanov – vice president of the National Labor and Welfare Association, pointed out: “The mining industry and especially “Asarel” are the oasis from which all other industries should drink water in terms of social dialogue, collective labor agreements and relations with workers in general.”
Vladimir Topalov – Chairman of the Trade Union Miners’ Federation “Support” said: “The idea to celebrate Miner’s Day, as today, was Prof. Tsotsorkov’s. He was saying, “I want us all together.” This holiday is not only for “Asarel”, but also for all Panagyurians”.
The Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Dimitar Tsotsorkov, led the company dance for Miner’s Day together with the famous State Folklore Ensemble “Filip Kutev”. The first applause for the holiday was given to the brass band of the Panagyur community center “Videlina-1865” and the youth brass band, which, together with the “Elinor” cheerleading band, represented Bulgaria at an international festival in Switzerland. The “Voice of Bulgaria” and Panagyurishte’s favorite Nadezhda Kovacheva, Mihaela Marinova, Veselin Marinov, DesiSlava and Lyubo Kirov took part in the “Celebrating Together” concert. The duet of the 11-year-old panagyur talent Hristiyan Balev with Veselin Marinov on the song “I know, Bulgaria, I know” won the applause of the audience.
There were many surprises for the little ones at the family holiday – four inflatable rides and entertainment with animators.
