Miners and Energy Workers Continue Protests Despite Adoption of The Just Transition Plan

The protests of miners and energy workers continue after the government adopted yesterday The Just Transition Plan.

The government has decided that coal plants will not be closed until 2038. It has been agreed that if miners and energy workers decide to leave the sector, they will receive up to 36 workers’ wages.

However Trakia highway remains blocked near Stara Zagora and Prohodat na republika.

Protesters stayed overnight on a fast despite the cold weather. People from Stara Zagora, who support them, brought them food and water.

According to the miners, the 36-wage proposal has many ambiguities and is also divisive. They insist on the implementation of the 14 points submitted to the Council of Ministers.

The government will send to Brussels today the three plans for a just transition for Stara Zagora, Kyustendil and Pernik. The deadline for their submission to the European Commission is expiring, and negotiations on the plans can continue until the end of November.
