[헤럴드경제(안동)=김병진 기자]Gyeongbuk Province announced on the 5th that it held a meeting with Park Jeong-ha, a miner who was stranded in a mine in Bonghwa-gun last year and returned alive after 221 hours.
The meeting held on the 4th was held at the invitation of Gyeongbuk Governor Lee Cheol-woo to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the Bonghwa mine accident.
Mr. Park said, “A year ago, I was able to feel the joy of my return thanks to Governor Lee Cheol-woo’s warm consideration, and I would like to sincerely thank you for not forgetting to celebrate my first birthday again.” He added, “I want to move to Gyeongbuk.”
He said, “At that time, I realized the value of precious things when I was miraculously rescued. As I live, I think I should look back on my family and surroundings and do better.”
In response, Governor Lee Cheol-woo said, “I heard that he is still suffering from trauma due to the aftereffects of the accident. We hope for a speedy recovery and we will do whatever we can to help.”
The province said that it was an even more meaningful time as some of the seven fellow miners who were initially stranded in the mine at the time of the accident, including Mr. Park’s family, were also present.
Meanwhile, in the Bonghwa mine accident, on October 26 last year, a vertical shaft collapsed at the Geumho Mine in Socheon-myeon, Bonghwa-gun, leaving two miners stranded 190 meters underground. It was a dramatic rescue incident after 10 days.
