On Friday, GERB will be “kindly asked” to leave the offices in the National Palace of Culture, where the party’s headquarters are located, the caretaker Minister of Culture Velislav Minekov told journalists in the National Assembly.
According to him, the use of the party’s offices “brings huge losses” to the cultural institution. “During their rule at the National Palace of Culture, we suffered a huge loss. It reached a staggering amount of BGN 90 million. I think it is normal for the ministry to look for all its confiscated property in some way. This is not party property, this is palace property. of culture and I want this palace to recoup its losses and work humanely, “Minekov said.
According to GERB Deputy Chairman Daniel Mitov, “this would be crossing all boundaries.” The politician told FOCUS that if this happens, GERB will react “in the sharpest possible way” and expects reactions from embassies. According to the party, there are no legal grounds for the minister’s actions, because “political parties in Bulgaria are guaranteed that they can use premises and these premises must be given to them by the state.” Mitov added that “if GERB, for one reason or another, has to relocate its headquarters because of the angry, naked, toothy face of a minister,” the state must allocate other premises.
The minister’s intention to vacate the space occupied by the party office was preceded by actions to vacate the premises in the building of the Museum of Socialist Art, occupied by the editorial office of the newspaper “Trud”, due to non-payment of rent.
