The scandal grows over the lack of reaction of the institutions to the case of the demolished building in Avksentiy Veleshki street in Plovdiv. After the publication of “Maritsa” Stoyan Stoyanov, a representative of “Capital Holding Group”, called the editorial board. Two months ago, the demolition of two company-owned buildings became national news and Culture Minister Velislav Minekov personally came to Plovdiv to stop the excavators.
“Prof. Minekov is in Skopje and cannot come to the place and take a position on the demolished building on Avksentiy Veleshki street. Well, where are arch. Petar Petrov and Petkana Bakalova. Where are the activists who allegedly defend antiquities. Petkana Bakalova is a staunch supporter of soboretin, remnants of former tobacco warehouses. Why don’t you protest now?” asks Stoyan Stoyanov.
As “Maritsa” already wrote, part of the administrative building of the former cigarette factory on “Avksentiy Veleshki” street has been demolished and, according to the project, a new construction is planned. So far, however, there has been no reaction from either the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, the National Institute for Cultural Heritage, or the so-called civil activists.
Here is Stoyan Stoyanov’s comment on the case:
“Professor Minekov is gone, but why is Petkana Bakalova silent? Two months ago, she provoked the whole country with her actions, and the minister, the head of the National Institute of Public Health and even the police came on foot and tried to stop the completely legal demolition of our building. And now there is no one?! Isn’t this a suspicion of selectivity in the actions of these people and does not lead to doubts in the direction of Bakalova’s business interests with people associates of state institutions such as the architect Petar Petrov, for example, with whom you live in the family?
This gives me the opportunity to ask these people whether a double arshin does not occur. Because today no one reacts to such a case, and in our country a building / beautiful legally demolished. riga – the one at 51-53 Hristo Botev Blvd/ became a cultural monument weeks after it no longer existed? Why is everyone silent now?”.
