One Minecraft player decided to build a recreation of the famous town of Springfield from the long-running animated television show, The simpsons. Although recreating a city seems like an incredible and arduous task, it pales in comparison to other Minecraft the builds that players have shown over the years.
A decade later Minecraft, using the blocky world to create marvelous displays has become incredibly commonplace. Minecraft players have built entire planets, cities, and massive historical monuments on individual scales. Some of these builds take days or months to complete, and the most intrepid players complete their builds in the game’s survival mode, risking their creation being destroyed by one of the Minecraft‘s Creepers. But any large-scale success Minecraft build deserves recognition and praise, especially when it comes from a beloved cultural landmark like The simpsons.
That’s precisely what Reddit user BlocksterCraft managed to accomplish, showing a complete recreation of the city of Springfield from The simpsons in Minecraft. In Creative Mode, BlocksterCraft takes audiences on a journey through Springfield past many of the show’s notable landmarks. Among them is the home of the titular family, as well as that of neighbor Ned Flanders. Springfield Elementary, Springfield’s famous tire fire (but not currently on fire), Krusty Burger, Moe’s Tavern, City Hall, Lard Lad Donuts (with a perfect Lard Lad mascot build), the Quik-e-Mart, L Springfield’s church, hospital, and nuclear power plant are all recreated and presented with stunning detail and accuracy. Even more impressive is BlocksterCraft’s custom Minecraft texture pack, which allows them to adapt the blocks to the color palette of The simpsons and also changes the text font of the Minecraft menu adapted to that of the show. Taking seven months to build, other players on Reddit were very impressed with BlocksterCraft’s efforts.
It’s one of the few times players have seen an entire city from a cartoon rebuilt in Minecraft, that’s probably why it’s received such attention and praise on Reddit. Of course, Springfield isn’t the only recreation of a famous cartoon or game that Minecraft players have never attempted. For example, recreating locations from the Pokémon video games and animated series in Minecraft is incredibly common and popular. But full recreations of massive Pokémon cities are rare to see.
With the help of texture packs and other mods, players continue to use Minecraft to create amazing works of art. Builds like this Springfield are impressive for both their creativity and the time they put into it. Maybe in the future players will recreate other iconic locations from other popular cartoons like The simpsons.
Minecraft is available on all platforms.
