Minas will be Praia Clube’s opponent in the final of the Brazil Women’s Volleyball Cup, this Tuesday, at 21:00 (Brasília time), at Arena Jaraguá.
Minas started losing the first set at Arena Jaraguá, but came back with a lot of will in the second set and stunned Flamengo in the following sets. The two-time champion of the Copa Brasil de Vôlei eliminated the tetra with the partials 23/25, 25/18, 25/17 and 25/16.
Flamengo says goodbye to the Copa Brasil de Vôlei and turns its focus to the Women’s Super League. The next match will be on the 13th, Monday, against Pinheiros, at 6 pm (Brasília time), at Ginásio Henrique Villaboim. The game will be broadcast by sportv.
The game
The first set was balanced, without a team opening a large advantage, the biggest was three points for Flamengo, but Minas quickly tried to arrive. While the team from Rio was better in the serves (scored three points in this sense), the mineira dominated the blocks (scored four times against three of the team from Rio). On the other hand, the nervousness at the beginning, for both sides, resulted in many mistakes that gave free points to the other team. There were seven errors on each side. At Flamengo’s set point, 24 to 23, Minas reversed the 5×1 to turn around, however, Sabrina secured the first set for Rubro-Negro.
Minas came back with everything in the second half and opened 6-0 easily. Flamengo was only able to score with a mistake by Peña on an easy ball to pass. The error destabilized the team from Minas Gerais a little and the team from Rio came closer, 8 to 5, with four points of error by the opponents. However, Minas managed to get back on track and managed the advantage well to win by 25 to 18.
In the third set, Minas continued to have superiority in attacks and blocks, without having to put so much pressure on Flamengo, who continued with reception errors. After the Minas Gerais team opened 9-2 easily, Bernardinho made a 5-1 inversion in Flamengo, but it was not enough for the team from Rio to enter the game. The coach himself, in the second stoppage of the set, said that the team “can’t do the basics”. Only at the eighth point did Rubro-Negro manage to score with a block, and Minas was already at the 15th point. As in the previous set, the Minas Gerais team managed the advantage very well to close the set at 25 to 17.
The biggest rally of the duel happened in the third set: 40 seconds. It was Flamengo’s 10th point on the set.
The fourth set was dominated by Minas again, opening 3 to 0. However, in the first minutes, Flamengo did not let the Minas Gerais team open as much advantage as in the last two partials and managed to balance the match. However, Minas’ standouts, Peña and Kisy, took responsibility for keeping the team in the lead. The team from Minas Gerais opened up nine points, 21 to 12, and Flamengo was losing confidence in the classification more and more. The final point could not have been from another athlete: Penã closed the set at 25 to 16 and the duel at 3 to 1 for Minas.
