The spraying termed Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) was carried out on the walls of the lodging room to avoid the Anopheles mosquito that transmits malaria.

Anopheles mosquitoes that are active from 18.00-06.00 WIT are known to like to perch on walls or walls of houses, so the IRS has carried out their effectiveness which can last up to three months.

“We have sprayed the IRS two months earlier. For hotels, we appreciate that they have done it independently,” he said.

The entire PON contingent, he said, had also been tested for malaria, and given counseling about the disease, how to prevent it, and how to handle it.

“From more than 500 specimens that we checked, we found three specimens of malaria cases. This means, below 1 percent. Two of them, athletes from endemic areas, one of them Mimika,” said Reynold.

“Later they will be traced to malaria endemic areas. So, the local health center or health office will coordinate with us,” said Reynold.
