MILWAUKEE (TELEMUNDO WI) – The city of Milwaukee has unveiled new works of art in Red Arrow Park as part of its efforts to curb reckless driving.
Mayor Cavalier Johnson helped unveil the “art car” at a press conference on Wednesday, August 14.
The installation, titled “The City in Motion,” features a Ford covered in carved traffic cones, created by local artist Sarah Davitt during the Public Artists in Residence program. Davitt is the first PAIR to collaborate with the Department of Public Works in finding artistic solutions to address reckless driving.
The artwork was unveiled on Wednesday 14 August with the aim of highlighting the dangers of reckless driving and underlining the importance of road safety.
“The City in Motion” will be transported to city events throughout August, including Skate Night at MMSD West Basin on Thursday, August 15, Center Street Daze between Holton and Humbolt on Saturday, August 17, Summer of Soul at the Marcus Performing Arts Center on Wednesday, August 21, Run Back to School at the MPS Central Services Building on Saturday, August 24, and the Washington Park Wednesday Concert Series on Wednesday, August 28.
