Local Milwaukee Bar to Remain Closed During Republican National Convention
A local watering hole in Milwaukee has made the decision to temporarily shut its doors during the Republican National Convention (RNC) held in the city this summer. Ricky Ramirez, the owner of the bar known as The Mothership, took to the establishment’s official Instagram page to inform the customers of the upcoming closure.
Avoiding the Trump-Inspired “Shitshow”
Expressing his sentiments regarding the upcoming RNC, Ramirez stated, “Sup idiots we haven’t lost a lot of followers in a while so here we go… as everything gets amplified with like the RNC shitshow coming to town Imao I would like to formally state that we’re shutting the bar down during the week of because fuck that noise.” Ramirez expressed his strong desire to avoid the chaos that he believes the convention will bring, citing it as the primary reason behind the closure.
He further added, “I’m not trying to get involved with or actively take money or rent the space out to that tomfoolery.”
A “Bud Light Moment” with Republicans
During an interview with Rolling Stone, Ramirez likened his decision to the bar’s “Bud Light moment” with Republicans. This reference took note of the politically charged boycott of the beer brand, initiated by conservatives, following its brief ad partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney. Ramirez pointed out that he does not care if Trump supporters or anyone else takes offense to his decision, stating, “I think a lot of people that have jumped down our throats are people that have never been to our bar.”
Despite potential backlash, Ramirez remains resolute in his decision to prioritize his bar’s peaceful atmosphere over financial gain during the RNC event.
