Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Next week, October 24, 2022 to be exact, WhatsApp will stop supporting a number of iOS and Android operating systems (OS). This makes it likely that users using older phones will be blocked by WhatsApp.
A number of operating systems that WhatsApp no longer supports are iOS 10 and iOS 11. Meta’s app will only work on phones running iOS 12 and above, while on Android it’s version OS4.1 or above.
“Like other tech companies, we annually review which devices and software are the oldest and have the fewest users to determine which support will be discontinued,” WhatsApp wrote, quoted by its official website.

Devices with older operating systems do not have the latest security updates. It also may not have the required functionality when running WhatsApp.
Some phones can still update their operating system to the latest version. For example, iOS 10 and iOS 11 need to be updated to iOS 12 to continue using the messaging app.
For example, users can continue to use WhatsApp on iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6S. But they need to update their iOS to the latest version.
Quoting Business Insider, unfortunately the same fate cannot be experienced by iPhone 5 and iPhone 5C users. As both are not compatible with iOS 12, so you won’t be able to use WhatsApp in the future.
