Millions of illegal cigarettes and thousands of kilos of mobile tobacco found in the port of Rotterdam

Customs stopped 6 million cigarettes and 4,500 kilos of mobile tobacco during a check in the port of Rotterdam. The illegal batch of tobacco was discovered on July 20, but this discovery is only being made public.

The cigarettes are illegal in the European Union because the brand is not recognized as valid here. If the cigarettes and tobacco had ended up on the Dutch market, the Dutch State would have lost 3.9 million euros in taxes.

Customs found the goods after a check with sniffer dogs. It is not clear where the tobacco comes from. As far as we know, no suspects have been arrested.

Earlier this year 27 million illegal cigarettes were also found in the port of Rotterdam. These cigarettes were then destroyed.
