millions of eggs exported from namakkal to qatar fifa world cup

Five crores of eggs were shipped from Namakkal this month to prepare meals for sports fans during the soccer world cup. Of which two million eggs were shipped in the last two days alone. Also, egg delivery will continue till January 2023. This has become a relief for chicken farm owners who were in crisis in Tamilnadu.

In 2007-2008, up to 15 crores of eggs were exported from Namakkal in Tamil Nadu to 11 countries including Gulf countries like Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain and Qatar as well as Africa and Afghanistan. But suddenly, as the shelf life of chicken eggs was shortened from six months to three months, the export decreased, and because of this, chicken farm owners got into a crisis.

Apart from this, with the confirmation of bird flu in various states of India including Kerala, countries have pulled back from purchasing eggs from India at the insistence of European countries. Taking advantage of the bird flu epidemic in India and the World Cup, Turkey has doubled the price of chicken eggs.

Because of this, countries including Qatar have to pay a high price for egg imports and are once again dependent on India. In addition, Namakkal Egg Production and Sales Association officials have asked central and state governments to issue bird flu certificates to producers so as not to create a bird flu crisis in egg exports.
