Seen from the air, the Darling River near the village of Menindee in Australia appears to have simply whitened. But when you approach, the smell and the sight take your breath away: they are millions of dead fish floating on the surface.
In this region recently affected by major floods, the inhabitants find it difficult to understand. “You know we had the floods and all these problemsexplains Jan Dening, resident of Menindee. We had just started cleaning. And it happens. It is as if we are now walking in the middle of a dry chaos with this smell of putrefaction.“
