The construction work on Äußere Weberstraße has been going on for almost two years – and it will not be finished in 2021 either. Because the wastewater association (AZV) “Untere Mandau” wants to renew two sewers here next year. On the one hand, the mixed water sewer in Äußere Weberstraße is to be renewed from the current end of construction to Heinrich-Mann-Straße. For this, 790,000 euros are planned, as Michael Kuba, managing director of the South Upper Lusatian water supply and waste water disposal mbH (Sowag), announced. Sowag manages the business of the AZV “Untere Mandau”, to which eight member communities belong.
The mixed water sewer from Äußere Weberstraße to Weststraße is also to be renewed in 2021 for around 630,000 euros. This is what the AZV’s investment program provides.
The canal construction work on Äußere Weberstrasse is one of the largest single investments by AZV in the coming year. The most cost-intensive project, however, is planned on Chopinstrasse. A mixed water discharge structure is to be built here – for a little more than 1.1 million euros.
But investments should not only be made in Zittau. In Olbersdorf, a sewage sewer is to be relocated a good 100 meters. For this, the AZV is planning costs of around 90,000 euros.
Overall, the AZV is planning investments totaling 3.15 million euros next year. The total investment is therefore significantly higher than this year, when the AZV spent almost 1.3 million euros. The higher sum cannot be financed entirely out of one’s own pocket, despite funding. The AZV plans to take out loans of around EUR 800,000 in 2021.
The numbers could still change, however, because the budget for 2021 – especially the investment plan – will be reviewed again. Michael Kuba asked the representatives of the member communities in the most recent AZV meeting to make the budget decision at the beginning of the new year if possible – so that the planned investment projects can also be tackled.
