They are no longer allowed to contact Filip, Caroline or their relatives. Making malicious comments about the couple – whether on social media or in the press – is completely out of the question. The couple’s lawyers also ask the authors of the bad reviews to remove them within three days. If they don’t, there will be a criminal complaint and the demand for a penalty.
While the number of negative reviews currently outweighs the number of positive ones, the couple wants to prevent worse. “They hesitated for a long time to take this step, because they don’t want to create a controversy. But this is no longer about their passage in Bought blind but about their indoor playground (Tarzan & Jane in Heusden-Zolder, ed.). A few people wrote reviews without clearly setting foot in that case,” says their lawyer Bart Van den Brande. For example, the reviews talked about ‘luxury people who earn money on their own’. “We found out who those people were and sent a letter.”

It is not their intention to intimidate or silence people, the lawyer emphasizes. “All we want is to avoid business damage to the company. Not everyone we sent a letter has responded yet. But most have since apologized and taken their review offline. I now noticed that a number of other people were writing five star reviews, as a counterbalance. That was far from the intention, but it does make sense.”
Little charismatic participation
The participation of Filip and Caroline in Bought blind did not go unnoticed. They were the first in the history of the program to pay a million euros for a home. But the villa that experts chose for them could not initially count on their approval. For example, they thought the house felt small and Caroline had a hard time with the fact that close neighbors live on both sides. “I don’t want them to hear our conversations with our window open.”
“There are no rooms, dressings, a studio, or bathrooms here. There may be a ‘for sale’ sign on this house. It may just stop here for me, it Bought blind adventure,” he continued. Many viewers were disturbed – quite vocally – by the “little charismatic participation” and “the lack of realism”. “That people with such an amount participate in Bought blind Putting insane demands on the table and then complaining is a blow to all young people who can’t buy a house in these absurd times,” it sounded.

“I deliberately didn’t read everything,” Caroline responded. “I was also very shocked when I saw myself on television. If it were someone else, I think I’d find them very conceited too. People sometimes forget how long and intensive this whole process is. It takes a year from registration to moving. As a viewer you understand perfectly why Bart and Béa buy a property, but as a participant you only get that information afterwards. We have always been very honest and some reactions in retrospect were a bit impulsive and exaggerated, we know that ourselves. We should have trusted the experts, but that’s easier said than done.”
In the end, the soup was not eaten as hot as it was served. The couple has since moved to their new home and enjoys living there very much. There is no such thing as regret. “If I knew in advance how everything would go, I would participate again. Even with the criticism. It was a course with ups and downs, but we kept each other straight and we learned from it,” the couple said.
