Millie Bobby Brown, known for her stellar performance in “Stranger Things,” has responded to recent discussions regarding changes in her accent. In an interview with Max Balegde, an internet personality, Brown addressed the social media chatter concerning her alleged transition to an American accent due to her prolonged stay in the United States.
“I’m an actor,” Brown declared. “I grew up in the public eye in America. When I come to set, I adapt, so I naturally mimic other people!”
Brown explained that the company she keeps, including her fiancé Jake Bongiovi, Jon Bon Jovi’s son, influences the way she speaks. She further added that her natural accent becomes more prominent when she’s in England.
“I can’t help but replicate the American accent when I’m around my fiancé or people like Jimmy Fallon,” Brown explained. “Similarly, when I’m in England, I find myself adapting to the British accent. I don’t do it intentionally, and I apologize if it offends you. I’m simply trying my best!”
Public Opinions on Brown’s Accent
Following her appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” earlier this month, various social media users began discussing Brown’s accent, or what seemed to be its altered state. One TikTok user commented, “Her British accent is barely there anymore,” while another pointed out, “she pronounces certain words like a Brit, but the cadence she’s using is so American.”
On a more supportive note, a user defended Brown by stating, “People with accents are often encouraged to enunciate more to be easily understood. I don’t believe she’s losing her accent; it’s likely just for the interview.”
