Miller confirms double cut of Turkish Stream project capacity – 2024-08-20 17:51:55

/ world today news/ The Russian company “Gazprom” is cutting the design capacity of the “Turkey Stream” gas pipeline almost in half, the construction of no more than two pipes is planned, the director of the company, Alexey Miller, announced.

“Gazprom is cutting the design capacity of the TurkStream gas pipeline almost in half, said the director of the Russian gas monopolist Alexei Miller,” Kommersant FM radio station said on Twitter.

Miller confirmed plans for the construction of no more than two Turkish Stream pipes, reports TASS.

Initially, it was assumed that the intergovernmental agreement on the construction of “Turkey Stream” will be signed for four pipes of the gas pipeline with a total capacity of 63 billion cubic meters, but later information appeared in the press that the parties would initially agree only for one pipe for the Turkish market with a capacity of 15.75 billion

In mid-September, the deputy chairman of Gazprom’s management board, Alexander Medvedev, said that the schedule for commissioning the TurkStream gas pipeline at the end of 2016 was being pushed back.

Previously, Ankara expressed readiness to discuss in detail with the Russian side the implementation of the construction project of the Turkish Stream gas pipeline only after reaching an agreement on the provision of gas discounts.

On August 7, it was reported that the concept of the Turkish Stream gas pipeline could change significantly – it could turn out to be two to four times smaller than the previously announced format of four pipes with a capacity of 63 billion cubic meters per year . This raises doubts that Russia will actually abandon the Ukrainian transit and supply gas to Europe only via the Baltic and Black seas.

On the same day, Gazprom sources reported that the Russian holding company had revised the configuration of the TurkStream gas pipeline system.

For its part, the Ministry of Energy said that the Russian side had sent Turkey two versions of the intergovernmental agreement on “Turkish Stream”. First option – the construction of the first section, second option – the laying of all four pipes of the gas pipeline. The Energy Ministry source did not specify when the documents were sent to the Turkish side.
