/ world today news/ American singer Whitney Houston will be honored posthumously with the “Millennium” award at this year’s “Billboard” awards ceremony.
The award is presented to artists with outstanding achievements in music and contributions to the industry. At the May 20 ceremony in Las Vegas, Jordin Sparks and John Legend will perform some of the late music icon’s songs.
Whitney’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina, and the singer’s daughter-in-law, Pat Houston, will also be part of the ceremony.
Whitney Houston is the first artist to have 7 consecutive No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. In addition, the singer has had four albums top the Billboard 200 albums chart. Houston’s biggest hit, “I Will Always Love You,” topped the singles chart for 14 weeks in 1993- a. Whitney has 16 Billboard Awards, six Grammy Awards, 23 American Music Awards and 2 Emmy Awards.
Whitney Houston died on February 11 this year. She was found submerged in the bathtub of her hotel room at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills by a relative. The emergency team arrived at 3:30 p.m. and tried to revive her for about 20 minutes. Houston was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m. local time. Local police report that there are no obvious signs of a criminal act.
On February 13, 2012, local authorities reported that the singer’s death was likely not drowning, but the result of a combination of the drug Xanax with other antidepressants and with alcohol. The water found in her lungs at autopsy was insufficient to cause her drowning.
