Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The commissioner is one of the highest positions in the company and is usually filled by professionals who have been in the business sector for decades.
However, it is not always like that, because a number of young millennial figures to Generation Z have started taking the stage and serving in these strategic positions.
Currently, there are at least eight young Indonesians whose age can be said to be young and have served as commissioners in public companies or which will soon be publicly traded on the Indonesia Stock Exchange.

1. Jhony Saputra
Jhony Saputra is the son of a businessman with a business octopus in Kalimantan, Samsudin Andi Arsyad alias Haji Isam. Jhony currently serves as the main commissioner at PT Jhonlin Agro Raya which will soon offer new shares in an initial public offering (IPO) to public investors later this month.
Jhony is known to be relatively young at 21 years old and belongs to Generation Z. He graduated from high school at Al Azhar High School, Central Jakarta, South Jakarta in 2018.
Jhony’s gait in the business world is apparently not only in Jhonlin Agro. He is listed as the owner and shareholder in four other companies. The four companies are PT Araya Agro Lestari since 2017 until now, PT Citra Agro Raya in 2017 until now.
Furthermore, he is also a shareholder in PT Modal Harapan Bangsa from 2018 until now, and a shareholder in PT Surya Mega Adiperkasa from 2020 until now.
2. Liana Saputri
Liana Saputri is the sibling of Jhony Saputra, the acronym for the names of the two children of Haji Isam became the inspiration for Jhonlin (Jhony and Liana) Group. Before Jhony, two years ago, Liana first filled the prestigious position of President Commissioner in another public company connected to Haji Isam’s family.
After the IPO in 2020, Liana, who was then 22 years old, officially served as the main commissioner of the public company Pradik Gunatama (PGUN).
Liana is known to have the latest educational background in Business Management and Leadership from Santa Monica College, Los Angeles 2018.
3. The Life of Hope
Although not a public company, RANS Entertainment, owned by the couple Raffi Ahmad and Nagita Slavina, is one of the new entertainment companies that many investors are eyeing, including the Emtek Group, which through Surya Citra Media (SCMA) has invested in Rp 248 billion of capital, with a share ownership of around 17 percent.
Last year, the 27-year-old youngest son of President Joko Widodo, Kaesang Pangarep was appointed as Commissioner of RANS Entertainment. Kaesang also welcomed the invitation because according to him the RANS Entertainment business was still in line with his background, namely the creative world.
Apart from being a commissioner at RANS, Kaesang also manages a number of private companies and invests in public companies. Recently, one of his startups received third party funding of Rp 101 billion.
4. Mahendra Agakhan
Mahendra Ratherhan, who is the son of SOE Minister Erick Thohir, was officially appointed as the main commissioner of Mahaka Media to replace Harry Zulnardy, whose status was removed. This appointment was approved by the General Meeting of Shareholders which was just held last June 27.
Previously, Mahendra also served as president commissioner at the soccer club from Central Java, Persis Solo, accompanying Kaesang Pangarep who became President Director of Persis Solo.
Aga Thohir who calls himself social-entrepreneur through his bio on his Instagram account, it is still relatively rarely exposed to the public.
Quoted from his personal LinkedIn account, Aga Thorir earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in entrepreneurship from Loyola Marymount University (LMU) in 2021. This means that Erick Thohir’s son is still in his 20s.
The university, which is located in downtown Los Angeles, is a private campus in the United States and costs more than IDR 700 million per year. The campus is renowned for its programs in entertainment, business and communications.
Aga’s LinkedIn profile is filled with internships and work experience at a number of companies, including GOTO and Northstar.
5. Queen Tisha Destria
Former Secretary General (Secretary General) of the All-Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Ratu Tisha Destria was officially appointed as an independent commissioner of the electronic goods retail issuer PT Electronic City Indonesia Tbk (ECII) after being approved by the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders (AGM) in mid-2020. .
Prior to occupying the position of Secretary General of PSSI, Ratu Tisha was the Director of Competition and Operations of PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB), which is the operator of the 2017 Liga 1 competition.
The first woman to become Secretary General of PSSI obtained a bachelor of science degree from the mathematics department at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) and graduated in 2008.
6. Alamanda Santoso
Alamanda Shantika Santoso, who is the founder and CEO of Binar Academy, was officially appointed as a commissioner at the taxi service provider, PT Blue Bird Tbk (BIRD), and was approved by the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders (AGM) at the end of last June.
Alamanda is not a new figure in the business world, but an old player who is also known as one of the designers of the Gojek application with his last position as Vice President. He is also known to have been an Independent Commissioner of Mandiri Capital.
Alamanda, who started learning coding at the age of 14, is a graduate of Bina Nusantara University (Binus) and is currently 34 years old.
7. Love Laura
Actress and singer Cinta Laura Kiehl is currently known to serve as a commissioner at an issuer that has shifted its business focus to green, new and renewable energy (EBT) industries from the infrastructure and telecommunications business of PT Protech Mitra Perkasa Tbk (OASA).
Cinta Laura Kiehl was officially appointed as commissioner after obtaining approval at the Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders (EGMS) at the end of last June.
The 28-year-old woman said she had a high concern for the environment. Cinta graduated cum laude from Columbia University, New York and earned degrees from two majors (double degree) namely Psychology and German Literature.
8. Ricky Harun
Last year, soap opera and FTV player Ricky Harun was officially appointed as one of the commissioners of the manufacturing company PT HK Metals Utama Tbk (HKMU). The appointment was made after obtaining approval at the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders (AGM) and the HKMU EGMS in August 2021.
Ricky’s entry as one of the company’s commissioners at HKMU is because he is a public figure which is expected to increase public awareness of the company’s products.
HKMU’s stock has been hanging out at a trading low of IDR 50/share for months and in 3 years has lost 85% of its market capitalization. Currently the company is still recording a financial performance that is just as bad with a negative record of losses and cash flows.
HKMU is one of the few public companies on the IDX that does not have a controller who usually acts as a machinist in determining the direction of the company’s business and is 100% owned by the public.
