The police sounded the national alarm when Millehaugen was absent after a leave from Trondheim prison on Wednesday.
He was on leave from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. but never met up again in prison.
According to VG’s information, the 53-year-old must have boarded a plane from Trondheim Airport Værnes to Oslo Airport Gardermoen on Wednesday morning. Information the police are supposed to have indicates that Millehaugen went on to Oslo.
Confronted with this information, police attorney Anne Haave in Trøndelag police district answers the following:
– The police do not come out with any more tactical or operational information about the investigation of the case.
The crime watchdog in Oslo does not want to comment on the case. They refer to the Trøndelag police district, which is leading the investigation. On-duty lawyer in Trondheim says until Thursday night that they will not comment on anything until a press release is issued.
VG has been in contact with Avinor, which is responding on behalf of Værnes and Oslo Airport, but they have no comment on whether they have been contacted by the police. Værnes Airport does not wish to comment on the matter.
The police have confirmed to VG that Millehaugen is wanted internationally, and that the customs and border crossings have been notified.
Operations Manager Lina Odden Lerhol in the Oslo police district says late Wednesday night that they have only received the national warning that went out to all police districts at the same time earlier Wednesday.
– Have you received assignments from Trøndelag?
– So far, we have not received any assignment from Trøndelag in this case, says the Oslo operations manager.
The 53-year-old convicted of murder has previously escaped from prison three times. During an escape attempt from Sarpsborg prison in December 1992, he shot and killed a prison officer and forced another officer to drive to Oslo.
– We use the resources and the opportunities we have, said police attorney Haave to VG on Wednesday night.
– Do you think that Millehaugen is still in Norway?
– We investigate broadly and say that we want the public’s information if he should be observed, either in Norway or abroad, Haave says.
– He has been gone for more than twelve hours, so where he has traveled, the police do not go out with any information about. What the police know and do not know, you unfortunately do not get to know.
– Do you fear that he is out of the country?
– We think that a detainee can be a dangerous man and that is why we want to get control of him, whether he is in Norway or abroad.
Millehaugen has been in prison all his adult life after being convicted of car thefts, burglary and armed robbery.
In 2012, he was sentenced to 21 years in prison, the law’s most severe punishment, for premeditated murder of Young Guns leader Mohammad “Jeddi” Javed. The minimum term was set at ten years.
Millehaugen has always denied criminal guilt.
He has served about ten years in Trondheim prison. Prison manager Egil Gabrielsen informed VG on Wednesday night that Millehaugen has completed several leave before, and that these have proceeded as normal.
