From November 8 to 30, 2024, the MJC in Millau welcomes the works of the designer Hachin in its exhibition space. His captivating sketches, made in situ in the streets, cafes and bars of Millau, reveal a unique look at daily life. The opening of this exhibition took place on Friday November 8, the opportunity to meet the artist and discover his work.
Bite to capture the snapshot
Hachin’s sketches are observational drawings made freehand, captured in the moment, with a few strokes for outlines. His gaze focuses on silhouettes and gestures, scenes of life to which he brings to life in a few moments with seemingly disconcerting speed! “ I look to see if people’s glasses are full to see if I have time to draw them! », jokes Hachin, well-versed in these particular shots.
Through these furtive portraits, he captures the essence of street scenes, each stroke of the pencil tells an almost story, revealing the soul of a moment. These quick sketches, enriched with details, are completed later, from memory.
From sketch to fiction, Millau manga decor
Along with the sketches, Hachin presents copies of drawings, marked with a rusty tone, inspired by signed pottery, they come from the exhibition “Millau on cardboard” and will be included in his next work. Others are manga-style comic strips, where Millau, in a revisited and futuristic setting, served as a backdrop to his stories.
In his comics, Hachin explores current societal topics, such as artificial intelligence, technological transformations and their effects on professional skills and human behavior. A universe that adolescents from 14 years old and adults can discover and where everyone will find food for thought.
« I am a storyteller, I have things to say, I have subjects, questions in mind, I need to answer them by telling stories. For that, I depict characters, in the fairest way possible, as if they were people, I am more of a realistic author. Through this and thanks to the interactions of the characters, I try to answer, to explain why I have certain emotions… that’s the goal of my art », says Hachin.
Drawings to win with a generous draw
During the duration of the exhibition, the public can participate in a draw to win certain sketches on display. This approach, natural for Hachin, remains original and is unusual, it perhaps reveals the desire to thank with these works those who inspired them.
