The volunteers of the Millau Blood Donor Association met at Victoire Park. Last Thursday, a few steps from the collection still in progress in the village hall, they held their general assembly. The opportunity for the president, Raymond Cassan, to take stock of the past year. And to recognize that despite the uncertainties and constraints related to the health situation, 2020 was indeed the year of all records, with 2,211 donors. “The calls for mobilization have been heard in Millau and the surrounding area,” assures the president. Before 2007, there were less than 10 collection days per year, since we have doubled this figure and that of donors. “
Marrow donation and cord blood transplant
Another subject raised during the general meeting, bone marrow donation. The Amicale has been involved in raising awareness of this donation since 2013. In 2020, the heart symbol on the Andan peak could be installed even if the solidarity hike had to be canceled. Raymond Cassan also returned to a report produced by Télé-Matin, to present their action. And recalls “that young men under the age of 35 are the ideal candidates to be bone marrow donors”. Attention has also focused on the donation and transplant of cord blood, of which very few maternity hospitals are authorized to collect or receive it. “I run it like that, but why not imagine empowering Millau?” Asked Raymond Cassan.
Among the projects to come, the Amicale intends to intervene in schools to raise awareness of its missions. During the next associations’ forum, which will take place on September 4 at Victoire Park, visitors will be offered a challenge: “Jump from the top of a platform on an inflatable mattress, to prove that it is not more difficult. to do that as a bone marrow donation. »Determined to continue their actions, the volunteers of the Amicale also launched an appeal to all goodwill people who would like to join their team.
