Milka makes popular Easter bunnies more expensive

For children it is a highlight at Easter: the chocolate bunny in the nest. But a consumer organization is now warning: This year the rabbit at Milka is significantly smaller – but not cheaper.

Fewer rabbits in the Easter basket: Milka’s “Smile Rabbit Alpine Milk” has become smaller – but not cheaper. For the Hamburg consumer center, the candy is therefore the mock pack of the month.

Instead of the previous 100 grams, the chocolate bunny now only weighs 90 grams. The price remains the same. On average, the product has therefore become around 11 percent more expensive.

Other varieties affected

It is not only the Alpine milk variety that is affected. The “smile rabbit nut” has also shrunk from 100 grams to 95 grams. According to the consumer advice center, the hidden price increase is even higher compared to the previous year because of a higher price.

The small version of the smiley rabbit has also shrunk. Instead of 50 grams as before, the smaller rabbit only weighs 45 grams, the price remains the same. Here, too, the hidden price increase is eleven percent.

Mondelez does not comment on the concrete allegations by the consumer center in a statement. Instead, the manufacturer of the chocolate Easter bunnies speaks of a design revision of the Easter classics. This serves a Europe-wide standardization.
