“Fauxmage” in the land of 1,000 cheeses?
And for Béatrice de Noray, CEO of the Bel group, “The target is those who have decided to stop using animal products”. A target that concerns 30% of French families where at least one person today declares himself flexitarian and plans to reduce his consumption of meat products.
Obviously, in a country with 1,000 varieties of cheese, the appearance of these “fauxmages” made from cashew nuts sometimes makes you cringe. But in the wake of the Bel group, many startups are already offering their products to increasingly attracted consumers.
More than 23 brands now offer their products, either in organic stores or in supermarkets since Casino and Monoprix, in particular, have agreements with the Violi, Vegan Deli and Les Nouveaux Affineurs brands, in addition now to products from the Bel group. A trend that is not about to stop, since analysts specializing in Foodtech still predict good growth in these new foods.
Enough to liven up our future family meals with a tasty game: who will recognize the fauxmage in the middle of the cheese board? And will the more conservative among us indulge in finding them tasty?
