Military plane crash carrying humanitarian aid in Sudan causes 18 dead, including four children – News

The plane, an Antonov, crashed about five minutes after taking off at Al Geneina airport, the capital of West Darfur state, a region that has been affected by tribal conflicts that have killed about 50 people.

“An Antonov 12 military plane crashed after taking off from Al Geneina. All of its occupants, seven crew members, three judges and eight civilians, including four children, perished,” military spokesman Amer Mohammed Al-Hassan said. in the statement.

According to the Sudanese army, authorities are investigating the causes of the accident.

Tribal conflicts in the Darfur region have caused 48 deaths and more than 240 injuries, according to the Sudanese Red Crescent.

In a statement, the humanitarian organization said 48 bodies had been sent to the morgue of the Al Geneina city hospital.

Similarly, Red Crescent teams transported 55 wounded to the same hospital, with 19 others in serious condition being taken to the airport for shipment to the Sudanese capital, Khartoum.
