Military Investigation Reveals Dog-Camera Footage of Hostage Situation in Hamas Encounter

According to what the Times of Israel website reported, the military investigation into the mistaken killing of 3 hostages is still ongoing, noting that it has included cameras installed on army dogs, which witnessed what happened.

According to the investigation, on December 10, members of the Golani Brigade’s reconnaissance unit encountered a group of Hamas fighters, who opened fire on them from a building.

The source adds: “During the battle, one of the trained dogs was sent to the building, which the army later determined was where the hostages were being held.

The dog was killed by Hamas militants, who were in turn killed by Golani soldiers, allowing the three hostages, Alon Shamrez, Yotam Haim and Samar Talalka, to escape captivity.

The camera mounted on the dog recorded the voice of the hostage, apparently Alon Shamrez, screaming “help,” indicating that there were other hostages in the place.

The camera recording was not monitored until two days ago, on December 18, after the dog’s body was recovered.

However, The Times of Israel explained that Shamrez, Haim, and Talalka tried to approach the forces, but were shot, after the soldiers considered them a “threat.”

The escaped hostages also left a sign in Hebrew reading “SOS” and “3 hostages.”

The Israeli army revealed, in its initial investigation, that the officer in charge “believed that the men’s movement towards him was an attempt by Hamas to set a trap for the army soldiers, so he immediately opened fire and shouted: Terrorists.”
