These five liver transplants were performed under the direction of the hospital director, Professor Mai Hông Bàng. Two of the transplants were scheduled and two more were done urgently. The last was done on a 13 year old child in critical condition. He suffers from Wilson’s disease.
According to Director Mai Hông Bàng, the Central Military Hospital 108 has worked closely with the National Organ Transplant Coordination Center for organ harvesting. It should be noted that a liver was donated by a brain-dead person at Bà Ria-Vung Tàu Hospital, then transferred to Hanoi.
This is the first time that the said Center has successfully organized an organ harvesting from a hospital far from Ho Chi Minh City for delivery to other regions of the country.
In the past three years, the 108 Military Central Hospital has performed 60 liver transplants.
This year alone, despite the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 epidemic, he managed to perform 40 liver transplants. It is a great success, in organ transplants, for the health service of the Vietnamese.
