Military exercises ‘Sword 2020’ begin in Ludza; will temporarily close the street sections on Sunday

As part of the training scenario, soldiers and bodyguards of the 32nd Infantry Battalion of the National Guard will provide Ludzas city ​​council and State Police Ludza district security.

Together with the State Police, the establishment of road control posts and identification of wanted persons will be organized.

A training scenario will be played out at the Ludza station of the State Police, when it is necessary to control the unrest.

During the training, the response capabilities and mutual cooperation between the State Police and the National Guard will be tested.

In Ludza City Park, soldiers and bodyguards will carry out security patrols in cooperation with representatives of the State Police.

Within the framework of military exercises, exercises of the Civil Protection Commission of the Ludza Cooperation Territory will also be organized, the aim of which is to promote the understanding of the responsible institutions about the action in case of danger.

It has already been reported that until September 13, the 3rd Latgale Brigade of the National Guard is conducting field tactical exercises “Sword 2020”.

The training takes place in Aizkraukle, Aglona, ​​Daugavpils, Jēkabpils, Ludza, Preiļi and Rēzekne, as well as in Aglona, ​​Aizkraukle, Aknīste, Dagda, Daugavpils, Jēkabpils, Krustpils, Ludza, Preiļi, Rēzekne and Sala districts.

More than 1,300 soldiers and guards of the 3rd Latgale Brigade of the National Guard, as well as cooperation partners from the 5th territorial unit of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Volunteer Defense Forces participate in the military exercises.

From 15 August to 4 October, the NAF military training cycle “Namejs 2020” is taking place throughout Latvia in order to test and improve the readiness of units to develop for the performance of national defense tasks both independently and within the collective defense system.

The National Guard points out that the military training activities expected this weekend will not significantly affect the daily course of Ludza residents, as they will take place in pre-defined, coordinated and demarcated areas.

On September 12 and 13, military equipment, soldiers and bodyguards will move along the roads in Ludza, as well as in Ludza, Kārsava and Cibla districts.

On September 13 in Ludza, as part of the training scenario and for road safety, the following street sections will be temporarily closed:

  • P. Miglinieka Street (in the section from Latgales Street to Skolas Street) from 09.00 to 16.00;
  • Stacijas Street (in the section from Blaumaņa Street to Jelgavas Street) from 13.30 to 16.00.

The Armed Forces call for awareness of possible temporary mobility difficulties that may arise during training.

Residents are urged not to worry, seeing the movement of soldiers and bodyguards outside the military landfills and unit locations, the deployment of machinery and other equipment and taking up positions in various parts of Latvia.
