Military coup in Sudan – the military dispersed the protests, there are dead

In Sudan, people protested after the military who seized power announced a new ruling council to exclude a civil coalition. The military began to disperse the protesters as soon as they began to gather.

According to eyewitnesses, they used tear gas and chased the protesters down the side streets to prevent them from reaching the central meeting points.

Most of the protesters dispersed on their own at sunset, although tear gas and gunfire continued until approximately 8:00 pm in North Khartoum. According to eyewitness estimates, the number of protesters in Khartoum is in the tens of thousands, while in other cities there is a large crowd of people, bringing the total number of people across the country to hundreds of thousands.

The Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors, which is affiliated with the protest movement, said the demonstrations in Khartoum were “subjected to excessive repression using all forms of force, including live ammunition.”

In Khartoum, Omdurman and North Khartoum, four people were killed by combat fire and one suffocated from tear gas. Access to hospitals is hampered as the military stormed the Al-Arba’in hospital in Omdurman, beating up medical personnel and arresting injured protesters.

A medic told the publication that approximately 29 people were injured and some of the protesters were seriously injured.
