Libreville, Friday June 2, 2023 (Gabon Info) – The President of the Republic spoke yesterday Thursday with Admiral Dong Jun, Commander-in-Chief of the Chinese Navy. The press release from the Gabonese presidency.
“The President of the Republic, His Excellency Ali Bongo Ondimba exchanged today at the Renovation Palace with a delegation led by Admiral DONG Jin, Commander-in-Chief of the Chinese Navy, introduced by the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China near the Gabonese Republic, His Excellency Li JINJIN.
The state of multisectoral cooperation between Gabon and China was examined by the Head of State and his hosts, welcoming the particularly warm and dynamic bonds of friendship between our two States. Cooperation in military and defense matters, particularly in terms of capacity building on both the civil and military levels, the fight against terrorism and the securing of our territory, the fight against maritime piracy and the exchange of experience between our two armies was hailed. Just as the President of the Gabonese Republic noted the strong and close relationship that binds Gabon and China; he took this opportunity to request that the two Parties raise their ties in their sector of activity to an even higher level.
Taking the floor, Admiral DONG thanked the Head of State for the marks of attention and kindness towards his delegation and for the audience granted to him. He conveyed President Xi Jinping’s greetings and friendships to the Gabonese Head of State.
He said he would spare no effort for the realization of the projects and worksites worked out by agreement between our two countries. Admiral DONG Jun stressed that President Ali Bongo Ondimba was the first African President to have paid a State visit to China, after the re-election of Chinese President XI Jinping, testimony to the exemplary ties between our two leaders and their respective Peoples .
It should be noted that the Heads of State of our two countries have decided to move Gabon and China from the concept of “Global Cooperation Partnership” in 2016, to that of “Strategic Partnership for Global Cooperation” last April”.
