According to a Pentagon press release, the amount includes $770 million in Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAT) funds, as well as $50 million in aid authorized by US President Joe Biden.
As part of this package, Ukraine will receive:
- ammunition for highly mobile artillery rocket systems (HIMARS);
- two advanced surface-to-air missile systems (NASAMS);
- up to 150,000 ammunition for 155 mm artillery;
- four additional counter-battery radars.
It is also reported that the weapons will be purchased from the military industry, that is, these will not be supplies from the stocks of the US Department of Defense. Accordingly, today’s announcement marks the start of the contracting process to provide additional capabilities to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak has already thanked the United States for military assistance.
