Oldenburg. (cb) Another important milestone has been reached: the topping-out ceremony for the new Oldenburg school campus took place on June 15, 2023. After completion of the construction project, around 1,000 students will be taught on the new campus. The cubature of the new school campus is already clearly visible a year after the laying of the foundation stone. In the coming years, the former sports field on Adolf-Friedrich-Strasse will develop into a modern educational location. A specialist classroom wing, a building complex for the Wa-grien community school and a 4-field sports hall are being built on the campus. The main building of the Freiherr-vom-Stein-Gymnasium will then be completely renovated in a further construction phase. After completion of the construction project, around 1,000 students will be taught on the new campus.
The city administration welcomed around 180 guests to the topping-out ceremony. The participants included the deputy district administrator Timo Gaarz, the trades involved in the project, architects, planners, residents of the construction site, those responsible for the city administration and representatives of the self-government, the school directors as well as student and parent representatives. The welcome speech was given by the newly re-elected Mayor Susanne Knees. This was followed by the mayor Jörg Saba, the deputy district administrator Timo Gaarz and Mr Nils Dethlefs from the general planning office ppp Architekten und Stadtplaner with a short speech. Finally, the most important thing: the topping-out! This blesses the building complex and is intended to protect the building and its users from all dangers. Review: The ceremonial laying of the foundation stone took place on May 3rd, 2022. After just 13 months, the shell of the building is complete, the windows of the classroom wing are installed and the building services installation is well advanced. In 2025 the grammar school will move into the new buildings. Only through good cooperation with everyone involved in the construction and with the self-government is it possible to advance such a project to this extent.
