Milei prepares tender to privatize four hydroelectric plants –

The Government of Javier Miley This Thursday, it established a period of 180 days to sell the public share package and privatize four hydroelectric plants in state hands.

Through a decree published this Thursday in the Official Gazette, a national and international public tender will be called to sell the majority or controlling share package of the hydroelectric plants. Alicurá, Cocoon, Colorado Hills y Eagle Stone.

The four hydroelectric plants are located in the Patagonian province of Neuquen and they have an installed power of 1,050 Megawatts (MV) (Alicurá), 1,260 MV (Chocón), 472 MV (Cerros Colorados) and 1,400 MV (Piedra del Aguila), according to official sources.

The share packages of the four hydroelectric plants are property of the public companies Argentine Energy Sociedad Anónima (ENARSA) by 98% and Argentine Nuclear Power Plant (NASA)by 2%, until the transfer of these share packages to the private sector through the contest takes place.

The Agency for the Transformation of Public Companies in coordination with the Ministry of Energy, both dependent on the Ministry of Economy, have 180 calendar days to call for the tender.

Last August, the Argentine Executive had extended the concessions of the four dams for one year or until the tender is finalized.

Alicurá is operated by the American company AES Alicurá; Chocón, by the Italian company Enel Generación El Chocón; Cerros Colorados, by the Argentine Aconcagua Energía, and Piedra del Aguila, by the Argentine Central Puerto.

In 1993, the Argentine State had transferred the majority shareholding packages to these companies, granting them the concession of the hydroelectric complexes for 30 years. EFE (I)
