It returns from 12 to 14 April (with a VIP preview on Thursday 11 April). Miartthe international modern and contemporary art fair organized by Fiera Milano directed by Nicola Ricciardi. With 178 participating galleries from 28 countries around the world, over a thousand works by modern masters and established and emerging contemporary artists, ten recognitions including prizes, acquisition funds and new commissions and as many museum directors from all over the world among its jurors, the The 28th edition confirms itself as an essential event for the Italian and international art public.
The edition will develop through two new sections, designed as dimensional portals or ideal time machines, with which Miart 2024 aims to further broaden its geographical and temporal boundaries, as also suggested by the title chosen for this edition – No time no space– which makes the words of a song by Franco Battiatomusician, artist, and explorer “of distant worlds and buried civilizations”.
Inside Establishedthe main section of the fair, in which some of the most important realities operating at an international level in the segments of modern, contemporary art and design interact, finds space for the first time Portala section curated this year by Abaseh Mirval which offers eight small exhibitions: from solo shows designed to reread the works of Italian artists such as Franco Mazzucchelli and Francesco Gennari to projects designed to broaden the horizons of the fair, such as the stands dedicated to Anna Boghiguian, Troy Makaza of Gresham Tapiwa Nyaude. And always within Establishedalso finds space Timescapean exhibition project curated by the fair itself, which will develop over the next three years and which every year will bring to the attention of the public works created in periods increasingly distant in time compared to the traditional chronological offering of Miart.
The starting point will be the early twentieth century, and the participating galleries present real micro-exhibitions that enrich the event with a trans-historical and transversal approach. An example of this is the Galleria Gomiero stand which talks about portraiture in the field of sculpture, with works, among others, by Medardo Rosso and Giacomo Manzùor the exhibition curated by Bottegantica dedicated to some protagonists of the Italian twentieth century, from Giacomo Balla to Umberto Boccioni, with a focus on futurism and aeropainting.
There are also numerous works commissioned specifically for the twenty-eighth edition of Miart, such as the poetic and monumental swing designed and created by Francesco Arena or like the performance Thyself agency Of Luca de LevaThere is also no shortage of personal exhibitions, such as the solo shows dedicated to the pictorial research of Tomasz Kowalski e di Lucy Stein or, on the modern front, the focus on the sculptures of Pietro Consagra or the stand dedicated to the ceramic works of Giosetta Fioroni.
Like every year, the bond with the city is then strengthened by the new edition of Milan Art Week (8-14 April), a widespread event that brings together the main public institutions and private foundations of the city dedicated to modern and contemporary art, with a program of exhibitions and activities. Finally, it should be underlined that many original contents have been conceived as a bridge between the Miart week and the following Milan Design Week (15-21 April), creating new synergies in which art and design contaminate and intertwine with each other.
