Milan, Maignan leaves the retreat of France | First page

Mike Maignan has left the retreat of France. The Milan goalkeeper accused a muscle problem in his calf during the 2-0 win against Austria in the Nations League yesterday. Coach Didier Deschamps replaced him at half-time with Alphonse Areola and today has called in his place Steve Mandanda of Rennes.

Maignan thus skips the next race on Sunday evening in Denmark and returns to Italy, where his conditions will be evaluated by the medical staff of the Rossoneri club in view of the resumption of the Serie A championship on Saturday 1 October on the Empoli field. Then on Wednesday 5 October Milan visited Chelsea in the Champions League, before receiving Juventus at the San Siro on Saturday 8 October.

Deschamps has instead decided not to call anyone in the place of another injured player: Barcelona defender Jules Koundé, at risk for the away match in Milan against Inter in the Champions League on Tuesday 4 October.
