This year’s summer season was quite different for Miks Zvejnieks, both due to the limitations of Covid-19 and the absence of competitions, and due to the fact that last year a summer roller skating career was closed.
The 25-year-old skier didn’t worry much – he used the opportunity to spend more time with his loved ones, as well as much more often than usual to play golf. Golf is very close to the Fisherman, as evidenced by his commitment to start in the “Ski & Golf” World Championship, where the winner is determined by taking together a trip down the mountain and a game of golf. The only time a Latvian started there was in 2013, together with his older brother Kristaps.
The fisherman did not disappear from roller skating this year either, despite the closed career: developing and improving their skills on roller skates. Of course, the Latvian roller skating season was also successful, despite the limitations. “
Miks, who is the second eldest of the four Brothers Fishermen, points out that getting to the training camp site in the Alps was even easier, because there is relatively less traffic on the roads, but always remember to use face masks: “When leaving Latvia and Italy, a face mask should be worn at a filling station, café or public place. Even if you are on a hill, you must wear a mask by the lift. It is becoming a small habit for me, there is no claim to such restrictions if it can promote the safety of us all. “
The athlete runs the training camp in the Italian mountain resort of Val Senales together with his team “World Racing Academy”, which has been running for several years: “We plan to spend three weeks here, so there is a lot of time to add technique, speed and other aspects!”
This season, as the Latvian skier himself points out, will be unpredictable and the fastest will be those who will be better able to adapt to the rapid changes and challenges of the season, because, most likely, the previously set plans will have to be changed more often than usual.
The fisherman, who currently occupies the 179th place in the world ranking in the slalom discipline this season, wants to continue to start in a competition that last year was quite successful and resulted in the TOP30 result in the European Cup, .
The athlete emphasizes: “The aim this season is to strengthen and improve all these figures, as well as to have a successful World Championship in February, where I would definitely like to improve my previously honored 38th place in slalom at the 2019 World Championships in Ore, Sweden.”
