Mikov to the Roma: Be proud and worthy citizens of Bulgaria –

/ world today news/ “I want to wish you a very nice holiday, health and to be proud of your identity, your songs and a big heart. Be proud and worthy citizens of Bulgaria“.

With these words, the chairman of the BSP, Mihail Mikov, greeted more than 1,500 Roma in the village of Kalekovets, Plovdiv on the occasion of the International Roma Day. “This is a holiday that 25 years ago in Poland decided to celebrate the special cultural identity of some wonderful people, such as the Roma – our brothers and friends, because we are all Bulgarians,” he added. According to him, the Roma should be proud that they are a worthy part of the Roma throughout Europe and the world. Mikov explained that times are difficult and poverty afflicts both Bulgarians and Roma alike. “We should not be divided and some politicians should allow themselves to say that bad things are done by the Roma. Bad things are done by bad people,” he categorically stated. In his words, those dark parts of history, when fascism divided people into first and second categories, must never be repeated. “Let’s say that everyone in Bulgaria – be it Bulgarian, Gypsy, Turk – deserves a decent life in European Bulgaria, because the biggest problem for our country today is the poverty of the people. The poverty that makes people worse”, emphasized the chairman of the BSP.

Mikov stated that there are Roma municipal councilors in the country, including from the BSP Left Bulgaria coalition, then under the name “Coalition for Bulgaria”. He pointed to Belogradchik as an example and added: “Where there are people who are authoritative and educated, who can represent citizens, regardless of their ethnicity, they will be on the lists.”

“Let’s not allow various political parties that are looking for some benefit to divide us. Each one of us has Bulgarian friends. We are a peaceful people and we must believe in the state,” added the chairman of “Euroroma” Tsvetelin Kanchev.

The event was attended by MP Dimitar Dubov, Georgi Gergov, Chairman of the BSP-Plovdiv, Plamen Slavov, Deputy Chairman of the Regional Council of the BSP, Angel Chakarov, Deputy Chairman of the “Movement for Social Humanism”, Prashant Kumar, Chairman of the Association of Indians in Bulgaria and mayors from the region.
