A girl was found in the window of life in Borowa Wieś in Mikołów (Silesian Voivodeship). The doctor assessed her condition as good, and several hours could have passed between delivery and handover. A touching letter with explanations was found with the child.
Caritas of the Archdiocese of Katowice announced that the girl was found on Tuesday in the window of life at the Divine Mercy Center for Disabled People. She was examined on site and then transferred to hospital for further observation and care.
The police were called
As always when a child is found at the window of life, the police were called.
“We are carrying out identification activities (…) I would like to emphasize that the mother is not subject to criminal liability, but we need to verify whether a crime has occurred, e.g. whether the child has not been kidnapped, whether the mother has not been forced to give up the child, etc.” – said Ewa Sikora from the District Police Headquarters in Mikołów.
A note was found with the girl. According to “Dziennik Zachodni”, which first reported the incident, the woman wrote that “she left her daughter because she cannot take care of her.” She also added that “giving up her child was the most difficult decision she made in her life.”

What is the window of life?
Windows of Life are specially prepared places where mothers who cannot or do not want to take care of their newborn children can leave them in a safe and anonymous way. The windows are open 24 hours a day. There are about 70 of them in Poland.
There are five windows of life in the Archdiocese of Katowice: two in Katowice and one in Mikołów, Piekary Śląskie and Jastrzębie-Zdrój.
