Dynamo midfielder Benito shared his opinion about Alexei Mykhailychenko and Mircea Lucescu in an interview with club television.
– What is the difference between the teams of Mikhailichenko and Lucescu? Mikhailichenko is a coach who hardly spoke. Yes, he knew what he was doing and tried to give every player a chance to prove himself. But Lucescu for me is one of the best coaches in the world. He is respected in every country we visit. At our hotel, they don’t leave him – they constantly ask for a photo or an autograph.
When he came to the team, he gathered all the players to see each of us. Lucescu did not consult with anyone about this or that player, he started everything from scratch, gave absolutely everyone a chance. Lucescu will not just tell you: “Play like this and like that.” He will explain why playing this way is the most important thing in this or that situation. He taught us to understand the game. Roughly speaking, I know what to do even before I received the ball. He brought this process to automatism.
When Lucescu came, the youth immediately began to play for us – Ilya Zabarny, Alexander Sirota, Vladislav Vanat began to show themselves very well. Mister said that football is not age. Therefore, experienced players interact very harmoniously with young people. All complement each other. I respect him very much for this. You know, usually the coach comes in and puts the result first. But the team is important for Lucescu. It is important to make the players feel comfortable both on and off the job,” said Benito.
